The Tootsie Roll was introduced February 23rd in 1896. The story began when Austrian-born Leo Hirshfield opened a tiny candy shop in New York City. Taking full advantage of his confectioner’s background, Hirshfield personally blended, cooked, and peddled a variety of products, including an individually wrapped, oblong, chewy, chocolate candy that quickly became a customer favorite.
Sold at a penny apiece and affectionately named after Hirshfield’s five-year old daughter, Clara. He wanted to call them "Clara Logs" ...But his Wife insisted that instead to use Clara's nickname, which was “Tootsie.”
I am and have always been a fan of the tootsie Roll so i thought it only befitting to make room for it on my blog. Happy Birthday Tootsie.

The only taste of chocolate that I know of that is low in fat. Calories, yes. Fat, not so much. Happy Birthday Tootsie Rolls. Love 'em too!!
